Tango Orange Man

Campaign

"Britvic logo"The “You know when You’ve been Tango’d” Orange Man campaign still enjoys a high consumer recall rate and is one of the most successful television ad campaigns ever. It introduced the term “happy slapping” to the English language and was later banned from our screens due to its influence on behaviour within the school playground. It was however supported by follow-up adverts which emphasised the “quintessential taste sensation!”

Role: Sole Trade Marketing Executive for Grocery Multiples

Trade Execution

My role was to project manage the launch of the “Orange man” campaign into top end Grocery accounts Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury, Somerfield, Safeway, Morrisons, Budgens, and the Co-ops. Though operational it involved multi-tasking within a deadline driven environment, and provided exposure to new ideas, significant spend, and creative agencies.

Summary

  • Assisted the National Account Managers in the presentation of the campaign to their accounts
  • Organised the development and print of all POS material
    • Shelf talkers
    • Posters
    • Free standing shelf displays
    • Brochure and flyer development
  • Logistical distribution of all POS material to national head offices and regional stores
  • Organised in-store events such as personal appearances by the “Orange man”

Achievements

  • The campaign re-launched the Tango brand overtaking market leader FANTA. Top end accounts increased the amount of shelf space given to the existing range and accepted brand extension into new flavours and pack sizes.
